After a thorough selection process to choose a development partner with the right expertise to design and deliver exemplary homes, The Crown Estate has recently appointed TOWN. TOWN is a profit-with-purpose developer with a mission to create good places for better lives, meaning its work is aligned to our environmental and social values. The Crown Estate, TOWN and a team of award-winning architects will work in collaboration with the local community and future residents to design the new homes and surrounding areas.
The Crown Estate
The Crown Estate is an independent business that manages land, property and the seabed across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is committed to using its resources to benefit communities, the environment and the wider economy, helping to tackle the nation’s long-term challenges in an inclusive and responsible way. In addition to Westwick Row, The Crown Estate is a major landowner of land to the east of Hemel and is working with the local community and partners of Hemel Garden Communities (HGC) to develop a new and inclusive place to live. Both activities at Westwick Row and East Hemel are part of a wider ambition by The Crown Estate and its partners to support the region’s economic growth and prosperity of the area, through the delivery of new affordable and energy efficient homes, skills and job opportunities, and access to a diverse natural environment
TOWN
TOWN, a profit-with-purpose developer with a mission to build good places for better lives, is partnering with The Crown Estate on the Westwick Row development. TOWN delivers homes, streets and neighbourhoods that improve people’s quality of life, enable more sustainable ways of living and improve the wider places they are part of. TOWN works to deliver its mission across a range of scales, from individual streets to new parts of cities, on developments across the country, often working alongside the people who will live in them.
Periscope
Periscope is the lead designer for Westwick Row. Periscope is known for their focus on community participation and masterplanning experience across a range of scales.
Mole
Mole Architects will lead on the design of rental homes. Mole has a close working relationship with TOWN, having designed Marmalade Lane and Love Wolverton. They bring valuable experience in working closely with residents and local communities.
Archio
Archio will lead on the design of owner-occupied homes at Westwick Row. Archio has previously worked with TOWN on Angel Yard cohousing. Like Mole, Archio has extensive expertise in co-design and collaborative practice.
Useful Projects
Experts in sustainable design and engineering, Useful Projects will lead on sustainability, structures and civils engineering.
